Annemarie Zwack, one of 4 Green Party candidates running for Common Council this fall, believes that Ithaca is the best place to live in the US. However, she believes that we can make it better. "Projects such as Cayuga Green, Ithaca Bike Lanes, the Children's Garden and the Art Trail show that Ithaca is an oasis of Progressive thinking," says Zwack. "But Common Council needs some fresh and positive thinking. We need varied view points that truely represent our diverse community."

One of Zwack's goals is to make local government more open and responsive, and plans to take part in the Green initiated `Coffee Hour with your representative' so that her Ward One constitutents can let her know their opinions and concerns. "The people of Ithaca are smart and they deserve to know what is going on in their government and to have a voice in it," says Zwack. "I will work to see that they do."

Annemarie is focusing her campaign for city council on helping organizations that are already doing great work, making it easier for them to do their jobs. "Ithaca Neighborhood Housing is one example. They make owning or restoring a house affordable, which promotes stability and builds community," she said. "But they need backup from an organized, ethical, and efficiently run building department. I want to ensure that they get that."

Annemarie Zwack lives in Ithaca with her husband. She is a nationally recognized studio artists and teaches classes at the Community School of Music and Art. She also runs her own mural painting business and has worked with many local merchants and organizations.
