Jill Stein runs for Massachusetts Governor

Topic: Green People

I believe that the 2002 election will give the citizens of Massachusetts an unprecedented opportunity to resurrect our abused democracy and end the drift of government toward corporate domination. With the shameless arrogance of Beacon Hill “leadership‚” attacks on Clean Elections, a declining economy and an unraveling environment, voter discontent runs wide and deep. We couldn’t ask for a better time to forge a powerful, broad coalition founded on principles of public health, social justice, sustainability and democracy. There has never been greater need, nor greater opportunity, to take our government out of the hands of short-sighted special interests and return it to the stewardship of voters.

In this campaign, I will highlight many of the specific objectives that the Massachusetts Green Party has already embraced: universal health care; environmental safeguards to protect our air, water, food, homes and workplaces; a fair, sustainable economy with worker protections, living wages and green technologies; and supports for strong families (of all kinds), including affordable housing, day care, and education opportunity.

Recognizing that our goals are fundamentally interdependent, we can begin to solidify a winning coalition to replace corporate power with voter power. With your ideas, vision and energy, we can unleash the power of grass roots democracy, from our communities to the governor’s office. I ask for your help in defining our approach to the many issues that we must address and in finding the best way to present our vision to the people of Massachusetts.

The first objective of my campaign is to qualify for Clean Elections funding. This will give the Green Party the historic opportunity to run a fully-funded gubernatorial candidacy. At long last, the big spending of corporate-sponsored political parties will not drown our messages out. To do this we need to raise 6,000 "qualifying contributions" in amounts between $5 and $100. How to make a contribution. Please consider asking a friend or family member to also contribute.
