The New York State Department of Conservation has posted maps that show all oil, gas and brine wells in the state at

We find this particularly interesting because we heard a lot about plans to explore for natural gas in Tompkins County after natural gas prices skyrocketed in the year 2000. A large area of the western edge of the state, it turns out, is a gas producing region, whereas a small part of the Pensylvania oil fields extend into Cattaraugus and Allegany counties. Little gas is produced in neighboring Schuyler county, but Schuyler is home to an underground gas storage facility as well as a network of brine wells which feeds a salt factory in Watkins Glen that produces, among other things, salt licks sold at area Agways.
