Steve Greenfield of New Paltz, New York, officially announces his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives for the new 22nd Congressional District of New York on the Green Party line. The campaign has already achieved full ballot status.
Greenfield, 40 years old, graduated from Columbia College with a degree in economics. He has been a college fundraiser, computer consultant and database manager. He is a professional musician. He is married with two daughters, resides in New Paltz since Feb. 2001, and is previously from New York City. He has been a member of New Paltz Greens since March 2001 and is a member of the newly designated Ulster County Green Party Committee.
Greenfield is proud to be associated with the gains being made by the Green Party in New York State and particularly within the 22nd CD, which has by far the highest Green voter enrollment in the state.
Greenfield plans to vigorously advocate for the traditional themes of the Greens, which are more timely and more urgent than ever before. These include peace, economic and social justice, human and civil rights, clean elections, clean business, clean government, and clean environment.
Greenfield wrote the preamble to the Green Commitment, a public document outlining the agenda of all Green congressional candidates across the United States, which reads as follows: “Today the Green Party candidates for the United States Congress announce the Green Commitment to America to meet the needs of our families, our communities, our nation and our planet. We promise to work for a clean economy, a safe environment, and a strong democracy. We will not accept contributions from corporate PACs. The only promise Greenfield makes to the residents of the 22nd District if sent to Congress is to bring home the truth.

Professions: musician and primary child care provider. Born and raised in NYC. Eagle Scout. Public-school educated until 12th grade, Bachelor of Arts (economics) Columbia, 1982. Coursework and independent study in military economics under Industrial Engineering Professor Seymour Melman. Considerable North American & European travel in pursuit of career. Graduate of the New York City Citizens' Police Academy.
Activism
Steve has been particularly active in areas of anti-militarism, tenant advocacy, First Amendment rights, police misconduct, and substance abuse treatment (detailed resume of activities upon request).
