NYSEG is offering New Wind Energy, a product of Community Energy, to those customers who want to help our environment. As a NYSEG customer, you can buy "blocks" of wind power. Each block is equal to 100 kilowatt-hours (kwh) and costs $2.50 for residential customers. There is a two-block minimum purchase. This cost will be in addition to your regular electricity bill. New Wind Energy allows you to support the development of clean, renewable wind-generated electricity. Sign up or call 1-800-35-NYSEG (1-800-356-9734).

What are the advantages?

More of our energy needs can be met through clean, wind-generated electricity. By supporting wind energy you can help the environment and make our communities even better places to live and work.

Why purchase wind energy?

It's a renewable power source which means it can never be depleted. New Wind Energy is a homegrown, "green" power source that also promotes our energy independence.

How much can it help?

Purchasing one block of wind power every month for one year reduces carbon dioxide emissions the equivalent to planting 125 trees or not driving 2,000 miles.

I get my electricity from a supplier other than NYSEG. Can I still buy wind power from NYSEG?

Yes. You can support wind power regardless of who supplies your electricity. You will receive a certificate that verifies your purchase.

Can I be sure that wind energy I buy is delivered to my meter?

No, but we can assure you that the wind energy you purchase is generated by wind farms in New York. In turn, this wind energy is delivered to the power grid for statewide distribution, so your purchase makes a real difference.

How much do I have to buy?

You can purchase two or more blocks of wind energy per month. ( A block equals 100 kilowatt-hours.) For example, if your electricity consumption averages 600 kwh per month – and you wish to purchase 100% wind power – you would buy six blocks per month.
